Drabble 4

All I wanted was to kiss her.

We’d been friends forever, and I’d pined silently for her for just as long.

Then one late night, after drinking enough liquid courage, we were alone and I finally asked her on a date.

Shockingly, she said yes.

All through lunch I could barely eat. Aside from being nervous as fuck, I was swept up in her speaking…about what I don’t really know because her lips – glossy and pink – held me captive. They were far more appetizing than any food I could possibly eat.

We laughed our way through the park afterwards. I wanted to hold her hand but did she want me to? I made some corny joke about ice cream when she slipped her arm through mine. My heart pounded harder than ever. It was then I thought the kiss I always dreamt of might be a real possibility.

We settled ourselves on the bridge that connected her side of town to mine. People passed, enjoying the beautiful day as we leaned over, watching the water below ripple in the light breeze. Although our conversation was as effortless as always, there was a difference: she touched my arms and hands way more than she ever had.

I hauled myself up onto the bridge railing to sit, so I could better gaze at her. The sun lit her so spectacularly that she was more breathtaking than usual.

As we talked, she inched closer, ending up between my legs.

I watched her mouth and she watched mine. We spoke of something or other but really neither of us was listening.

It’s now or never.

I bent down as she arched up, our lips finally meeting in a kiss that put my dreams to shame.
