Drabble 3

How long were we going to stay lost before he admitted it?
I’d already huffed in annoyance. He gave me side-eyes in return. I observed aloud that we were lost. He rolled his eyes. And when I made mention that my bladder was about to explode, he asked if I wanted him to pull over.
“No one’s around,” he said.
“How about you just get us unlost and get me to a real potty.”
That’s when he used the huffing technique on me.
He said that touring America’s landscape on the way to Vegas, the spot we both longed to visit, would be “epic”. Turns out that “epic” was one huff away from me commandeering the wheel of his beloved car to hunt down civilization.
It’d been hours since we spotted another human and I was starting to freak. I tapped my fingers on my knee, thankfully distracted by the sunset’s glorious reds and oranges.
“We’re almost there,” he said.
“I assume you’re using the term ‘there’ lightly.”
He chuckled. “You’re very cute when you’re annoyed.”
“Well, then I must be incredibly cute right now.”
“Yes, you are actually. It’s one of the reason why I love you.”
I stopped. Why is he suddenly serious and sweet?
He rubbed my cheek, glancing from the road to me. “I love everything about you, and I love that you let me make this into a road trip – even if right now you’re being…‘cute’.”
Whoa.
He refocused on the road, my heart fluttering wildly. We rounded a curve and in the very distance I saw twinkling lights – Vegas! Finally!
He pulled over.
“Why are you---?”
“Shh,” he said shifting to face me and taking my hand. “We’re two pair, baby, and I want to make you my Queen of Hearts forever. Will you marry me?”
I gasped. This is definitely epic.
